Sydney harbour and north shore
Interior designer Sydney: harbour light, privacy and apartment homes
Luxxe Interiors is a Gold Coast interior design studio led by Tammy Brazel, designing Sydney homes since 2019. Type interior designer Sydney into a search bar and you get pages of portfolios, most of them lovely, none of them telling you how a room above the water behaves at four in the afternoon. Harbour and river blocks ask more of a design than a flat suburban site does. Light arrives twice. Neighbours sit above you and below you.
Light that comes off the water twice
Every interior designer Sydney harbour owners meet will say they respect the view. Fewer plan for what it does to the room. A room facing the harbour is lit from the sky and again off the water. The second lot comes from below, at an angle no eave will stop. It lifts every white on the wall, washes out screens, and fades the fabric on the sun side of a sofa within a few summers.
So the palette gets tested on the block, not on a monitor. Warmer whites hold their colour against water glare. Honed stone reads better than polished when the sun is low. A sheer layer behind heavier curtains takes the worst of the morning without shutting the view down. Glazing, curtain track depth and lighting are planned together, because a north east room needs one scheme at 7am and a different one at dusk.
Privacy on a slope where everyone can see in
On a Mosman or Vaucluse block the house above looks over your roof, and the house below looks straight back up. Double Bay apartments sit close enough to read each other's kitchens. The view you paid for and the privacy you want share the same window.
An interior designer Sydney owners hire for a slope block earns the fee in plan, before a finish is chosen. Beds and bathrooms move off the sightline. The kitchen bench turns so nobody works with their back to the water. Where the plan cannot fix it, sheers, planting and the height of the joinery do the rest. Frosted glass is the last answer, not the first.
Apartments, and two of them joined into one
Flats and apartments now house 21.7 per cent of people in New South Wales, up from 19.9 per cent five years earlier (ABS, 2021 Census). A lot of that is downsizers, and on the north shore some of them buy two apartments side by side and join them.
That job is mostly rules. By-laws, a works application to the owners corporation, acoustic ratings on any new floor, wet area waterproofing, and a lift booking window that quietly sets the largest piece of joinery you can get upstairs. Nothing structural moves without engineering sign off. The interior designer Sydney apartment owners need is the one who reads the by-laws first and draws to them, rather than finding out after the stone is cut.
Sydney projects and the studio behind them
Tammy Brazel holds a Bachelor of Design and has worked in residential interiors for eight years. Luxxe has Sydney homes at Lindfield on the upper north shore and at Blakehurst in the south, plus the Fairway Drive Residence. On the Gold Coast the studio has completed four residences on the Sovereign Islands, among them homes of more than 4,000 square metres internal floor area and valued at more than $20 million. Luxxe delivered the interiors of Duddingston House, the Category A listed Palladian mansion in Edinburgh designed by Sir William Chambers in the 1760s.
There is no Sydney shopfront. The design runs from the Gold Coast studio, with site visits when the job calls for one and the rest resolved in drawings, renders and virtual reality before anyone starts pulling walls apart.
- Full home interior design, concept through to installation
- 3D renders and virtual reality walkthroughs
- Kitchen, bathroom and laundry design
- Home cinema and bar design

- Decoration, furniture and styling
- Renovations and collaboration on new builds
Interior designer Sydney costs and how a project runs
What an interior designer Sydney project costs turns on scope, not on postcode. A single kitchen and a whole harbour house are different animals, so the fee is quoted against a defined scope after the first conversation. The work moves in four stages: discover, define, create, complete.
The point of that order is to settle every decision on paper before a builder prices the job. Variations are where renovation budgets disappear, and Sydney trades price uncertainty into every quote. Nationally, approvals for alterations and additions to homes ran at $1.3 billion in June 2026 alone (ABS building approvals), so good trades are booked out and lead times are real. Bring the design forward, not the demolition.
One more thing worth asking any studio you shortlist: ask to see a drawing set rather than a mood board. A pretty board is easy. A set a cabinetmaker can build from is the part you are actually paying for.
